045 NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS [11 January 2010]

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions for 2010? If you haven’t yet, it’s not too late. Here are some suggestions (with specific examples) for resolutions to improve your health naturally:
• Stop smoking – if you need help, get it.
• Exercise more – walk 30 minutes 3 times a week.
• Eat more raw vegetables – have a salad or green drink at least once a day.
• Brush and floss daily – this is my resolution!
• Get more sleep – go to bed an hour earlier 5 nights a week.
• Drink more water – aim for 8 glasses a day.
• Cut back on sugar and artificial sweeteners – drink lemon water instead of pop.
• Learn something new to keep your brain active – join the photography club.

Here are a few tips (from mercola.com and other sources) to help you stick them out.

1. First make resolutions that are realistic. Too difficult and you won’t be able to stick with them for long. Don’t aim for perfection – a small permanent shift is more valuable than a temporary swerve.
2. Make goals measured by actions rather than results. Commit to the actions and the results will follow.
3. Write them down and post them in a visible spot where you can see them often.
4. Conscript an accountability partner with whom you regularly report your successes (and failures). Spouses are an obvious choice for this as they usually have an incentive to help you succeed.
5. For big goals set intermediate steps. Want to lose 50 pounds this year? That works out to 1 pound a week. Meeting short term goals encourages you to persevere for the long term.
6. Schedule time to meet your goals. Write them on your calendar or in your day planner.
7. If you mess up, start over immediately; don’t wait until next January 1.

Good luck with yours. I’ll let you know how I do with mine.
